I am going to mark this thread SOLVED, but if you could answer my question above about USB connecting with power on/off, I would appreciate it. Upon checking a box, I was happy already that it would work, because this step never happened these days.

I have tried downloading the correct driver from the HP site but it takes forever to download and then does not install properly.

The installation was the same this time yet just with one step extra asking me to add the printer. I am trying to use a new HP Laserjet P1006 printer (which says it is Windows 7 compatible) with my new Dell Studio XPS desktop computer, running 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Magically, my second printer which was lost in the control panel/printer appears along with this problematic laserjet I was trying so many times to install without success. Then, I went to the services and made everything automatic and "start" from disabled and stopped. So why leaving the power on while disconnecting USB cable wouldn't I risk damaging the printer now? I understand the disconnecting USB part, but it's contradictory with the installation wizard's important note NOT to turn the power on while connecting the USB cable, because it might damage the printer. It said to disconnect the USB from the printer as well as from the computer while leaving the power ON. So I followed the instruction on the website. I had a feeling that this services trick would work :-D A lot of services have stopped recently one after another lately. Ah!!!!!!!! I recalled it, because I just enabled my audio from there. I did not download the Print& Scan Doctor, but I checked out the first link plodr provided. I clicked on the tab "add a printer," yet the windows said that the print spooler service was not running. Indeed, no printer was listed there still. OK, so I was closing the little wizard screen, but I was told that the set-up process had not been complete yet and indeed was interrupted by closing the little wizard screen. Although there were only two buttons on the wizard screen being a clickable " I tried cleaning up my computer, so i probably accidentally deleted the functionality of my HP Laserjet P1006 printer. I posted a thread on HP support forum for days, yet I have not gotten reply.
